Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make an appointment?

Call us at 207-626-3243 or toll-free at 1-866-531-7247.

When can I have an abortion?

We provide abortion care between 6 - 14 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period.

What is the cost for the abortion?

Both medication and aspiration abortion cost $500. Some insurance plans cover abortion, but not all of them. Financial assistance is available; we can connect you to help when you call.

Are there different abortion options?

Yes, we offer aspiration and medication abortion in our Augusta office; medication abortion is available at other Maine Family Planning centers through the use of our telehealth system.

I'm a teen-- do I have to involve my parents?

In Maine, a minor can obtain confidential reproductive health care, including abortion care, without parental consent or notification. However, we encourage young people to involve their parents or a trusted adult in health care decisions whenever possible. For help with talking to your parents, or if you are the parent of a pregnant teen, go to “Mom, Dad, I’m Pregnant.”

Is abortion safe?

Abortion is one of the safest medical procedures in the U.S. Click here to read more about safety and risks.

Do I need to come to the office more than once?

Aspiration abortion only requires one visit. Medication abortion requires two visits.

How much time should I plan for my appointment?

We will do everything we can to make your visit as short as possible, but you should plan on being at the clinic for up to four hours.

Will I receive birth control?

We'll help you figure out which method is best for you, and will send you home with a prescription, a referral, and/or condoms.

Will my visit be confidential?

Yes. All of our services are confidential. No one may access your information without your permission.

What if I'm still deciding?

If you're still making a decision, you can make a separate appointment at your local Family Planning clinic to discuss all of your pregnancy options (request an appointment for pregnancy testing and/or options counseling). Our role is to support you in your decision; if at any point you change your mind, we can give you information about your other options.
